Business Process Lead - Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan - Toronto, ON





This position is responsible for providing leadership for the development of, and on-going responsibility for, business processes within Member Services. The position includes the co-ordination of business areas in designing, implementing, monitoring and initiating improvement to business processes. Working closely with business area leaders and team members, the Business Process Lead brings analytical rigor, change management and innovation to ultimately support successful implementation of strategic initiatives and day-to-day business activities.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


Defines and implements process improvement initiatives for assigned strategic initiatives


  • Leads process change at Teachers’ through the use of data driven methodology rooted in Lean principles

  • Leads initiative planning, design and implementation (e.g., identifies initiative objectives, scope, critical success factors, process flow design, work plans)

  • Ensures compliance with the Teachers’ Pension Act, policies and procedures and other relevant legislation

  • Defines, measures, reports on and monitors performance metrics (for initiative purposes and also for on-going business process purposes)

  • Proactively troubleshoots challenges (e.g., performance gaps), risks and issues

  • Creates / maintains critical supporting process documentation (e.g., process flow design, SIPOC, RACI, stakeholder plans)

  • Communicates process performance within Member Services; engages Sr. Leaders where appropriate for decision making and/or escalation

  • Thinks outside the box; leverages extensive business knowledge and identifies the appropriate times to bring forward innovative ideas and solutions

  • Creates an environment that encourages colleagues to develop and express ideas and opinions

Leads day-to-day improvement initiatives that result in positive business results and coach business partners

  • Engages with Member Services partners to understand key departmental challenges, opportunities and collaborate on next steps

  • Works with business partners/sponsors to define and deliver ad hoc improvement initiatives

  • Coaches business partners on the use of continuous improvement methodology and tools

  • Challenges the status quo by identifying what initiatives to stop / start / continue

  • Regularly communicates and documents status and outcomes to impacted individuals

  • Ensures sustainability / process ownership for initiatives and provides product support

  • Trains on the use of process improvement methodology and techniques

Supports Teachers’ strategy at varying levels of involvement


  • Participate in activities that support Teachers’ and Member Services’ vision, mission, principles, values, roadmap

  • Work in accordance with departmental strategies

  • Helps to deliver greater value-add by driving deliverables related to business process management strategy

Job Requirements

  • University degree plus 5 years related business experience in a process centric role

  • Certified Green Belt strongly recommended; detailed knowledge and experience with continuous improvement methodology and tools (e.g., Lean, Business Process Management, Six Sigma, or equivalent)

  • Pension industry experience is preferred; excellent knowledge and understanding of the Teachers’ Pension Act, policies and procedures and other relevant legislation

  • Broad understanding of current technologies, techniques and tools pertaining to the analysis, design, development, testing and deployment of solutions

  • Must have very strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Visio, PowerPoint

  • Strong proficiency in workflow management systems (Camunda), and other analytical tools (SAS, SQL) a definite asset.
