General Description of Class
Under general supervision leads and directs a group of Driver/Dispatchers and Light Equipment Operators (LEOs) performing complex and standard driver/dispatch and LEO duties in accordance with required procedures.
Typical Duties
The following illustrative tasks indicate the level of skill required, and the extent of responsibility involved in this job. They in no way limit the incumbent to the tasks indicated.
Flexibility of the employee to perform a wide variety of functions is necessary in successfully fulfilling the requirements of his position. The degree to which each employee performs each of the following tasks listed below will vary according to where and when the employee is scheduled to work.
a) leads and directs all Driver/Dispatchers and LEOs;
b) organizes and coordinates all Driver/Dispatch and LEO duties;
c) coordinates delivery and pick up of staff and equipment through dispatch and distribution of work for Driver/Dispatchers and LEOs on a daily basis;
d) utilizes GPS to enhance truck service efficiencies;
e) coordinates daily vehicle inspections, cleaning and routine mechanical adjustments;
f) organizes administrative functions for Driver/Dispatchers and LEOs on a daily basis;
g) liaises between Forepersons, Lead Hands, and Stores in organizing delivery and pick up;
h) maintains inventory of transportation equipment;
i) uses departmental computer systems to plan work;
h) makes recommendations on efficiencies and required equipment;
i) performs duties of Driver/Dispatcher and LEO;
j) works on campus snow and ice removal duties as required; and
k) other related duties as required.
Qualifications
:
Minimum requirements for selection
Education:
Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent. WHMIS, and must be able to qualify for Transportation of Dangerous Good Certificate upon hiring.
Experience:
Four years of related experience. Knowledge of University of Toronto St. George property is preferred.
Other:
A valid Provincial Class “G” driver’s licence, physical ability to perform required duties; demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in English (oral and written); ability to direct and lead staff; ability to provide information in a clear and concise manner; able to work in all weather conditions; proficient in Microsoft Excel, good interpersonal skills, ability to work effectively in a team environment, ability to perform multiple tasks under pressure of constant demands, accuracy and attention to detail.
