GENERAL MAINTENANCE ELECTRICIAN (up to 2) GREENWOOD SHOP RAIL CARS & SHOPS DEPARTMENT Guided by a new and ambitious Corporate Plan, the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC), North America’s 3 rd largest transit system, has embarked on a 5-year journey to transform into a transit system that makes Toronto proud. We are currently seeking (2) two General Maintenance Electricians. These jobs work a 40-hour work week. One position is day shift, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The other is classified as “various” afternoon shifts, primarily working 3:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. Both positions have Saturday/Sunday off days.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Maintain, overhaul, troubleshoot, install, repair, test, inspect various A.C. and D.C. power systems such as drive systems, wheel-press electrical systems, etc. (including 600 volt AC/DC power), programmable logic control systems, computerized numerical control systems (CNC), electrical and electronic fixtures, apparatus, motors, control devices and systems for a wide variety of electrical and electronic equipment, tools, machinery, appliances
- Repair and maintain electrical services and equipment (not related to the building internal infrastructure) for revenue and non revenue vehicles
- Treating passengers and/or employees with respect and dignity and ensuring the needs of passengers and/or employees with disabilities are accommodated and/or addressed (within your area of responsibility) in accordance with the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders so that they can fully benefit from the TTC as a service-provider and an employer
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE
- Possession of a Certificate of Qualification as an Electrician, Construction and Maintenance, valid 309-A license
- Successful completion of community college level courses in industrial electronics (involving logic circuits, semi-conductor devices, circuit analysis and design, etc.)
- Successful completion of community college level courses in digital and microprocessor controls, commercial electrical appliance repair
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in electrical and maintenance work would be an asset
- Possession of a valid, non-probationary, Province of Ontario, class “G” driver’s license
- Pass tests set by the Department which correspond in content to the knowledge, theory and/or practical requirements of the job
- Ability to read and understand schematics
- Must demonstrate an ability to communicate effectively, write legibly, follow oral and written instruction
- Attend and successfully complete all training courses and safety awareness programs related to the job. Examples include: defensive driving, confined space entry, fall protection awareness, first aid, CPR, WHMIS, Streetcar/Subway Rulebook, operation of forklifts, lifting devices, mobile sweepers/scrubbers, etc.
- Must have or rapidly acquire a comprehensive knowledge of the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders including disability accommodation and accessibility requirements pertaining to passengers and employees
- Required to provide a set of tools as per the established tool list
- A copy of your valid Electrician, Construction and Maintenance Certification of Qualification (309-A), proof of completed apprenticeship hours and community college courses as noted above, must be submitted upon request.
Hourly Rate Range: $28.30 – $36.72 *Plus a skilled trade premium of $0.75 per hour for all regular hours worked.
