ASSISTANT EXAMINER OF SURVEYS (1) - Ministry of Government and Consumer Services - Toronto, ON

Are you a highly motivated professional surveyor interested in managing complex legal survey and title issues and participating in the development of related regulations, policies and procedures? If so, ServiceOntario’s Business Development Division has an exciting opportunity for you to be a legal survey expert as Assistant Examiner of Surveys.

What can I expect to do in this role?
In this role you will:


•Provide professional direction and advice to staff and clients on survey and title matters

•Recommend and assist in the development of amendments or new regulations under the various land registration related statutes

•Make rulings under the Boundaries Act on parcel boundaries

•Make public presentations to professional groups, such as lawyers, planners, surveyors

•Develop training materials and deliver training to staff

•Participate in Quality Assurance Reviews for land registration records

•Participate on external committees composed of senior representatives of the survey industry

•Participate in Teranet or Ministry committees relating to surveys and mapping

How do I qualify?
Mandatory:
•You must be a licensed member of the Association of Ontario Land Surveyors in good standing


Technical Skills:
•You have knowledge of and are able to interpret and apply relevant provisions and legislation (such as the Land Titles Act, the Registry Act, the Condominium Act,1998, the Boundaries Act, the Statutory Powers and Procedures Act, the Surveys Act, the Surveyors Act, Planning Act, the Land Registration Reform Act) to resolve survey issues and to liaise with other professionals when addressing client concerns

•You exercise judgement and tact in providing advice and direction to staff and clients and in developing and implementing policy and procedures

•You have knowledge of the land registration records, automation, conversion and implementation procedures


Communication and Interpersonal Skills:
•You are able to communicate effectively to provide opinions, direction and advice to staff and clients

•You can compose complete and accurate replies and reports for senior staff

•You have well developed negotiation and mediation skills to reach mutual acceptable conclusions to complex issues

•You can evaluate complex evidence to create well-reasoned and concise written legal decisions
