Temporary Full Time Student Community Support Worker (8 weeks) - The Salvation Army - Toronto, ON





RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACTIVITIES

Service


  • The incumbent will learn how to provide individualized counselling services to a caseload of 3-4 clients within the rehabilitation model, philosophy, and policies of the agency.

  • To establish and maintain purposeful, effective and appropriate professional counselling relationships.

  • To assess client needs and design and implement a goal-oriented rehabilitation plan with each client.

  • To actively seek employment opportunities and/or volunteer opportunities for clients.

  • The incumbent will work with the client on-site to provide training, support, job coaching, supervision and quality control.

  • To notify the supervisor immediately of any problems between the employer and or client(s) and any significant observations and/or behavioural issues regarding the clients.

  • To be aware of all aspects of workplace safety and cleanliness.

  • To be mentally alert and physically fit in order to perform duties

Organizational


  • Be aware of Agency philosophy, values, policy and procedures and to ensure that these are upheld

  • Model appropriate professional and ethical behaviour, especially concerning participant confidentiality, respect and dignity, self-determination and informed consent, and health and safety

  • Establish and maintain appropriate professional helping relationships with participants

  • Report any significant challenges and participant observations and observations to supervisor

  • Actively participate in regular supervision with Program Director / Program Supervisor

ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Secondary School Graduation Diploma

  • Post-Secondary Social Services program student desired

  • Second language desired to support culturally diverse group of participants (Preferably Cantonese)

  • Good oral and written English communication skills

  • Good interpersonal skills

  • Good organizational and problem solving skills

  • Ability to plan ahead and motivate others to handle assigned tasks

  • Basic computer skills and familiarity with the MS Office suite

  • Comfortable working with people with psychiatric and developmental disabilities

  • Experience in a rehabilitation setting is an asset

  • A clear vulnerable sector police reference check

  • On line Armatus Abuse Training
