Senior Systems Analyst - Mackenzie Investments - Toronto, ON



We are seeking a Senior Systems Analyst to join Mackenzie’s Information Services (IS) team. The IS team at Mackenzie supports business units across the company, working with business users collaboratively on a variety of initiatives including: launching new products, gaining better insights into our business through data analysis, and improving day to day operations.

Mackenzie Systems Analysts are aligned with business portfolios. This opening is for the IS team supporting the Marketing and Product business unit. This IS team works on applications, data and infrastructure projects, deals with tight deadlines , and works hard to build trust with the business client.


The successful candidate will work within a specific framework of technology and investment management standards, policies and procedures, while collaborating with internal business partners to ensure successful execution of mandates of the supported Marketing and Product teams.


The Senior Systems Analyst (SAN) maintains a “business perspective” through all phases of a project and works with the entire project team to assist in the planning, designing and launching of new solutions in support of our growing business needs. Senior Systems Analysts are commonly part of the project leadership team, working with the Project Manager and Systems Architect to ensure successful delivery of the project, and may lead a team of Systems Analysts on large projects.


SAN Activities performed in the role include:


  • Eliciting, analyzing, documenting and managing requirements throughout the project lifecycle (e.g. functional requirements, non-functional requirements, systems requirements, usability/user experience requirements, configuration and integration requirements, data requirements, etc)

  • Performing business, systems, functional, and data analysis

  • Business and system modeling (e.g. business processes, logical data models, data flow, use cases, sequence diagrams, etc.).

  • Reviewing Test Strategies and Test Plans to ensure the functional quality of the solution

  • Supporting training and solution implementation activities

  • Contributing to post-implementation reviews

  • Ensuring requirements and analysis processes, best practices, and tools are known and followed

The following qualifications will assist the successful candidates in accomplishing these functions:

  • Minimum 7 years within a complex project/program environment

  • Post Secondary Degree/Diploma in a related field

  • Experienced in

    • Building trust with business partners.

    • Data modeling, data mapping, ETL data integration and creating SQL queries

    • Agile methodologies and user stories

    • Web application development environment

    • Annotated wire frames, mock-ups, and prototyping

    • Identity access management requirements and specifications

    • Applications/Technologies: Open Text, TAM, Webtrends

    • Tools: JIRA, Confluence, Sparx Enterprise Architect, Visio

  • Knowledge of

    • IIBA and other analysis industry practices and guidelines

    • System Life Cycle Application Development methodologies

    • Financial services industry, mutual funds and ETFs

  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills

  • Strong planning, organization, analytical/problem solving skills

  • Resourceful, Results Oriented, Progressive and a Team Player
