POSITION: Audiologist


LOCATION: Hamilton


START DATE: September 19, 2016


MINIMUM START SALARY: $44,367 per annum ($73,945 per annum pro-rated to 60%)


POSITION STATUS: Temporary Contract ending September 19, 2017; Part-time, 21 hours per week


POSITION SUMMARY:


Provide diagnostic assessment and evaluation of hearing loss. Prescribe hearing aids and other assistive devices for clients. Plan and direct treatment/rehabilitation for clients. Clients may be individuals, small groups or organizations.


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:


Direct Service:


1. In Relation to Target Client Groups and Caregivers:


  • Complete diagnostic hearing evaluations, special tests and other assessments and screenings as required.

  • Prescribe and dispense hearing aids, FM systems and Assistive Listening Devices; counsel and instruct clients on care and maintenance of same; pair with blue tooth devices and remote controls; recommend appropriate hearing aid accessories and supplies.

  • Provide hearing aid checks to ensure appropriate fit of hearing aids to prescription and perform adjustments as needed; take ear impressions for the ordering of custom hearing aids, products and earmolds; provide hearing aid repairs as needed

  • Accept referrals and screen clients, by walk in or phone referral, in order to assess feasibility and eligibility for Canadian Hearing Society audiological services

  • Provide tinnitus consultations and related services

  • Provide home visits, on occasion, to clients with mobility issues

  • Consult with referring physicians, family/caregivers and other support providers

  • Provide information and education to clients and group

2. IN RELATION TO OTHER PROFESSIONALS AND AGENCIES:


  • Liaise, act as resource for and consult with other professionals, counsellors, agencies and services in relation to confidential client information

  • Write letters and clinical reports to referring physicians, professionals and outside agencies as required.

  • Provide training to other staff and volunteers in order to facilitate local aural rehabilitation programs (Hearing Help Classes and Hearing Screening)

  • Assist in program expansion efforts and participate in local office support (including travel) to other CHS audiology programs as require

Administration:

  • Maintain records in accordance with CASLPO’s Records Regulations.

  • Prepare computer generated sales orders, cost estimates and invoices as well as paperwork related to 3 rd party funders.

  • Keep accurate audiological records in relation to client files, test results, progress notes, assessment forms, treatment and follow-up; maintain internal (CHS) statistics and reports

  • Initiate and follow up on correspondence and phone calls from clients, general public and other referral sources.

  • Assist in equipment evaluations, calibrations and maintenance; responsible for infection control of instrument

  • Order and maintain equipment inventory

Community Education:

  • Act as CHS representative and provide information about services at external workshops/seminars for other professionals, agencies, networks, etc.; represent CHS on external professional committees as required

  • Co-ordinate information and organise, lead, or participate in specific programs such as community or consumer workshops related to hearing health issues

  • Provide mobile hearing screening/evaluations and community education

  • As required, participate in media interviews and provide written articles about hearing health care

LINE OF RESPONSIBILITY:

Reports to the Director of Audiology


QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Master’s degree in Audiology

  • Registered with CASLPO

  • Registered as an ADP Authorizer and Dispenser

  • Strong background in dispensing required

  • Ability to make decisions and handle multiple tasks in a busy clinical environment

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Internet and electronic clinical management systems and NOAH software

  • Demonstrated ability to work as a team member

  • Demonstrated excellent communication and interpersonal skills

  • Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) or willingness to learn

  • Demonstrated sensitivity to working in a culturally diverse environment

  • Occasional travel in Ontario
