We are currently seeking a Fire Prevention Inspector. This is a 40 hour work week with Saturday/Sunday as off-days.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
Perform Fire Prevention work on various fire protection equipment used throughout the TTC including buildings, car houses, garages, vehicles, subway rapid transit lines, bus and subway divisions, and other facilities
Conduct inspections, testing, resetting and recharging of fire protection equipment such as sprinkler systems, control and operating valves, extinguishers, hydrants, hose, fire alarm systems, fire monitor towers, fire pumps, smoke detectors and fire suppression systems
Test the performance of all surface and track-level subway dry-drop phones and various computerized fire alarm panels
Perform minor repairs to sprinkler systems, and isolate and reinstate fire protections systems such as smoke detectors, flow switch alarms, etc.
Respond to fire alarms and fire trouble calls any time during the day or night to inspect and reinstate fire protection equipment
Working with other tradespersons to conduct annual fire alarm inspections
Perform stand-by duties as required on a rotational basis
Assist TTC mobile forces as well as police and firefighters, as required
Responsible for treating passengers and/or employees with respect and dignity and ensuring the needs of passengers or employees with disabilities are accommodated and/or addressed (within the area of responsibility) in accordance with the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders so that they can fully benefit from theTTCas a service-provider and an employer
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE
Requires training normally obtained through the completion of Grade 12 (technical programme) or its recognized equivalent as defined by the Training Department’s guidelines for the assessment of Grade 12 technical program
Must hold a Community College Certificate from the Fire Protection Systems Certificate Program
Must have a working knowledge of personal computers, related software such as Word and Excel and possess good keyboarding skills
Possession of a valid, non-probationary, Province of Ontario class “G” driver’s license
Successful completion of all TTC training and testing required for this position including defensive driving, confined space entry, Subway/SRT Rule Book & WHMIS, emergency first aid, fall protection awareness, propane tank handling certification, lifting devices (motorized), asbestos awareness, spills training, respiratory protection, scaffold safety, transportation of dangerous goods and high voltage substation orientation
May be required to attend the Insurance Advisory Organization’s sprinkler system certification course
Must have or rapidly acquire a comprehensive knowledge of the Ontario Human Rights Code and Related Orders including disability accommodation and accessibility requirements pertaining to passengers and employees
Hourly Rate Range: $26.69 – $34.67 (Wage Group 8)
