Litigation Assistant
Newly founded litigation firm seeking experienced litigation assistant with varied experience in civil litigation, criminal law, administrative law, and office administration. Candidate must have at least 3 years of experience. This position suits an individual excited by the opportunity to develop skills in diverse practice areas.
Office location: Toronto
Essential Functions
• Developing and maintaining filing system (both hard copy and electronic)
• Opening and organizing client files including managing limitation periods
• Administrative duties as required such as managing calendars, coordinating meetings and making travel arrangements
• Entering dockets, billings, preparation of invoices and account letters
• Preparing cheque requisitions and trust deposits/withdrawals
• Drafting and typing legal documents
• Handling telephone calls and correspondence
• Other administrative duties as assigned
• Liaising with IT, accounting, and other legal professionals
Required Experience/Skills/Qualifications:
• Post-Secondary education in legal administration or equivalent
• 3+ years of experience as a legal assistant supporting and working with at least two busy lawyers
• Experience in practice areas of civil and commercial litigation, administrative law, and criminal law
• Solid typing and computer skills: proficiency in MS Office and PC Law
• Knowledge of the rules of civil procedure, small claims court and Criminal Code of Canada
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to communicate in a professional manner and ensure high standards of customer service
• Ability to take initiative, work well independently, follow instructions with minimal supervision
• Availability to work overtime, when required
