2nd Class Engineer, Maintenance & Relief (IUOE-9960) - York University - Toronto, ON





PLEASE NOTE: This position requires bilingualism in English and French, and is located at Glendon College: 2275 Bayview Avenue, Toronto.

The Bookstore and Mailing Associate is a front-line representative for the Bookstore and Mailing operations by providing customer service to the general public, for a variety of inquiries related to mail, textbooks, general books as well as stationery and other merchandise offered at the Glendon bookstore. This position is responsible for operating computerized cash registers, displaying merchandise, assisting in shipping out merchandise as well as returning unsold products to publishers. The Bookstore and Mailing Associate also facilitates the collection, processing and distribution of information and materials on the Glendon campus. This includes mail, time sensitive parcels between and among members of the York University community on both campuses and from outside the University.


Education:

High school diploma.


Experience:

One (1) year related work experience in retail including sales, merchandising, operating a computerized payment / inventory system required. One (1) year experience providing excellent front-line customer service. Experience sorting, classifying and delivering mail is preferred.


Skills:

Demonstrated skills including:

Working accurately and effectively, especially during periods of high volume; attending accurately to detail

Customer service and dealing courteously and effectively with people, pleasant telephone manner; patience and persistence to deal with unfavourable conditions and irate patrons

Ability to communicate effectively when obtaining and/or providing information, answering enquiries or dealing with any community members in general

Lifting/moving heavy materials

Basic computer skills required (e.g. Word, Excel, Lotus Notes)

Ability to use bar codes, scanners

Dealing accurately and effectively with cash

Demonstrated ability in sorting and organizing mail, shelves, packages, etc.

An aptitude for working effectively in a team environment as well as the ability to work independently when required

Knowledge of University campuses, departments, faculties and building locations is preferred
