Shift Manager
What is the opportunity?

Provides leadership and direction to numerous platforms and environments within the Global Operations Command Centre. The team operates 24/7 365 days a year supporting production, development and disaster recovery environments for our businesses. This includes RBC’s Network, Distributed Systems, Midrange Systems and Mainframe platforms. Shift managers are responsible for event and incident management, including, escalation and restoration of services while maintaining communication with our clients, businesses and GTI partners. The managers will work closely with all GOCC staff to maintain operational excellence by identifying process improvements, metrics gathering, and people development.


What will you do?


Leads, coaches and develops a team of highly skilled technical professionals creating opportunities for all staff both from a professional and a technical viewpoint and monitors their progress. Emphasis on building technical skill-sets and behavioural competencies in all staff for career development both within the group and into other areas of Global Technology Infrastructure.


Conduct Career Coaching Sessions and review succession plans.


Accountable for plans made for the implementation of new technologies including verification of the adequacy of resources, implementation/support documentation, pertinent training & ongoing relationship management with partner groups in GTI & RBC.


Focal point for staff HR concerns & performs applicable administrative functions (interview processes, development processes, succession planning).


Liaison & decision making relationship with RBC-CRE facilities management regarding building requirements & concerns.


Relationship management with internal (RBC partner groups) & external service providers regarding cost avoidance/reduction initiatives for GCC to ensure relative asset inventory is maintained


What do you need to succeed?


Must-have:


Ensure problems are quickly identified, resolved and documented to avoid a reoccurrence


Review changes prior to implementation to ensure these will not interfere with service level agreements


Requires basic knowledge and experience with all services pertaining to distributed systems (Wintel, UNIX, Linux, Solaris), Network (servers, switches, appliances), Midrange systems (HP/NSK, iSeries), Mainframe (z/Os, VM), Tape operations, Infrastructure hardware and software including RBC applications.


Proven skills in problem identification, escalation and resolution
